Dangerous Chemicals that we apply everyday…

It’s a love affair that’s been going on for centuries. And no wonder. There’s nothing like a new lipstick or favourite perfume to make us look and feel good. Or so we thought… In fact, according to a new report, most of our favourite cosmetics are cocktails of industrially produced and potentially dangerous chemicals that could damage our health and, in some cases, rather than delivering on their potent ‘anti-ageing’ promise, are causing us to age faster.

Research by Bionsen, a natural deodorant company, found that the average woman’s daily grooming and make-up routine means she ‘hosts’ a staggering 515 different synthetic chemicals on her body every single day.
any of those are also used in products such as household cleaners, and have been linked to a number of health problems from allergies and skin sensitivity to more serious hormonal disturbances, fertility problems and even cancer. Parabens, for example, which are designed to preserve the shelf-life of your cosmetics, are one of the most widely used preservatives in the world, and are found in shampoos, hair gels, shaving gels and body lotions.

But their use is becoming increasingly controversial – a range of different studies has linked them to serious health problems including breast cancer, as well as fertility issues in men. Research from the Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine suggests that some parabens we had previously presumed to be safe, such as Methylparaben, may mutate and become toxic when exposed to sunlight, causing premature skin ageing and an increased risk of skin cancer. Methylparabens are found in more than 16,000 products, including moisturisers and toothpastes. Cosmetic producers have always defended their use of parabens on the grounds that they can’t be absorbed into the body. But many leading researchers disagree, including Dr Barbara Olioso, an independent professional chemist, who says: ‘Research shows that between 20 and 60 per cent of parabens may be absorbed into the body.’

There are a number of laws designed to protect us from dangerous chemicals in cosmetics, but researchers worry that they don’t go far enough.

The Cosmetic Toiletries and Perfumery Association said : ‘Stringent laws require all cosmetics to be safe, and each product undergoes a rigorous safety assessment. The number of ingredients in a product, or whether it is natural or man-made, has no bearing on how safe it is.’

They also say that any chemicals are present in safe doses that can’t harm us. While that may be true, there is some disagreement over what constitutes a ‘safe’ level – for young people and children, or sensitive adults, these levels may not be so safe at all. And even if the relatively small amounts in individual products don’t hurt us, there is growing concern over the number of products women use daily, and the cumulative effect of so many chemicals being used all over our bodies every day, for many years. As Charlotte Smith, spokesperson for Bionsen, says: ‘Women have never been more image-conscious and their beauty regimes have changed over the years, from a simple “wash & go” attitude, to daily fake-tan applications, regular manicures, false lashes and hair extensions. ‘Lots of the high-tech, new generation cosmetics and beauty “wonder” treatments naturally contain more chemicals to achieve even better results, which, of course, means women apply more chemicals than ever before.’ If you want to protect yourself from chemical overload, reduce your overall cosmetics usage; switch to natural or organic products, and read the labels on your beauty and grooming products with care.

For better life we should go for Ayurveda Beauty Treatments, its herbal treatments – very natural and totally safe.

Ayurveda Treatments for skin Diseases—>>>

The holistic management of health problems in ayurved comprises the three fold scientific approach towards diseases through diet, lifestyle and medicine.

Ayurveda has stated that skin diseases occur primarily due to sluggish liver function, which leads Pitta and Kapha Dosha dysfunction when toxins build up and the liver is overwhelmed, then the impurities show up in break-outs and other skin problems.

Another vital factor that contributes to healthy appearance is the clean bowel: hence the need for regular and complete bowel evacuation. In order to achieve this, a mild laxative like Trifala and a light diet are advisable if one suffers from constipation.

Effects of Stress on Skin—>>

There are three types of stress, and all three impact the skin in different ways.

Mental stress starts a chain reaction that ends in a drying out the moisture in the skin. Thinning, dryness and the shrinking of the ‘shrotasa’ (microchannels) that carry nutritive fluid to the skin result in wrinkles and stress lines.
Emotional stress also affects the skin-just notice how anger or embarrassment can turn your face red. This shows the connection between emotions and the skin. If emotional stress becomes chronic, the result is acne, sun sensitivity, and other Pitta-based problems.
Physical stress: Exercising too much, working too much, or straining the body over a period of time causes physical stress. This causes the drying out of skin moisture and rough, aged skin.

To counteract mental stress, maintain a Vata-pacifying diet and daily routine. To bring emotional stress into balance, follow a Pitta-pacifying diet and routine. For physical stress, try to limit exercise or work to fifty percent of your physical stamina.

Scientifically treatments have been classified as shodhana & shamana.

Shodhan Treatment-

When doshas are vitated in large guantity & disease is chronic then shodhan chikitsa should apply first.
Acharyas have classified shodhana as Basti, Vaman, Virechana, Raktamokshana (Blood letting) & nasya.

Shaman Treatment-

When doshas are minimally imbalanced & the body is weak. Shaman Treatment is more important.
Shaman treatment can be classified as external & internal.
Administration of proper food, medicines by mouth is internal treatment & the application of medicated oil, lepo (ointment), etc is external treatment.

Honey – The natural Healer

Honey is the very common n easily found in kitchen…
Let see some of its medicinal n Healthy uses—

Honey provides a natural sweetener that can be used instead of sugar. Honey is a whole food that comes from plant nectar and does not raise blood sugar as other simple sugars do. Honey also contains a variety of minerals and vitamins and has a long history as a healing food. Honey has been used as an antiseptic, antimicrobial, and antibiotic.

Antibiotic Honey Kills Germs
Honey has long been used for its antibiotic properties and research has now demonstrated the mechanism. In an article published in the Journal of the Federation of American Society for Experimental Biology, scientists explain that a protein made by the bees called defensin-1 is the active germ-killing ingredient in honey. The researchers postulate that honey may even be able to treat diseases and infections that are antibiotic resistant such as MRSA (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus).

Vitamins and Minerals in Honey
Honey contains vitamin A, vitamin B2 or riboflavin B3 or nicotinic acid, B5 called pantothenic acid, vitamin C, biotin (also known as vitamin H) and rutine. Honey also contains many minerals: including calcium, magnesium, potassium, iron, copper, iodine, and zinc. The bee pollen in honey contains a great deal of protein as well.

Antioxidants in Honey
Honey contains antioxidants. A study at the University of California demonstrated that consuming honey can raise antioxidant levels in the blood. The darker the honey, the more antioxidants it contains. Dark colored honey from Illinois buckwheat has been shown to have 20 times the antioxidant value as sage honey from California.

Skin Healing Properties of Honey
Because honey has antimicrobial and antiseptic properties, it can be used to heal skin conditions. Hundreds of cases have been published in medical journals demonstrating honey’s ability to cure wounds and burns. Honey kills bacteria in the skin and speeds the healing of burns. It can be used to treat sunburns as well.

Honey in History
Honey has been used as far back as Ancient Egypt. Pictured on ancient hieroglyphs and stored in tombs, honey was mentioned on the Rosetta Stone. King Menes, an Egyptian King from 4000 B.C, was known as the Beekeeper. The use of honey combined with wine and milk for healing was recorded in Egyptian medical texts written on papyrus.

Know your Skin by Ayurveda

So may things are told on Skin…Tips…formula…advertises n so on…!

But here i mentioned the Ayurveda view on skin types…!

—>>> Know the type of your Skin <<<—-

The first step in the holistic Ayurveda approach to skin care is finding out your Ayurveda skin type.

Vata skin is in generally dry, thin, delicate and cool to the touch, easily gets dehydrated, and is very vulnerable to the influence of dry windy weather. Vata skin may age faster, and tends to be dry, rough and flaky when out of balance.

Pitta skin type tends to be fair, sensitive, soft, warm, and of medium thickness. less tolerance to hot food, less tolerance to fieriness in temperament. Pitta skin types tend to be more prone to freckles and moles than the other skin types. When out of balance, Pitta skin can flare up in rashes, rosacea, acne, or sunspots.

Kapha skin tends to have all the qualities of water and earth — it can be oily, thick, pale, soft, cool and more tolerant of the sun. Kapha skin tends to age slower and form less wrinkles than the other two types. Kapha skin types may struggle with dull complexion, enlarged pores, excessive oil, blackheads, pimples, moist types of eczema and water retention.

“Combination” skin can be Vata-Pitta, skin that is both dry and sensitive, Kapha-Pitta-skin is oily and sensitive , and Vata-Kapha- skin that is generally dry with some oily zones.

The ayurvedic approach to caring  for combination skin takes into account environmental and seasonal factors. For example, a person with Vata-Pitta skin would follow the recommendations for Pitta skin in summer and Vata skin in winter. The Kapha-Pitta type would follow Pitta recommendations in summer and Kapha recommendations in winter. The Vata-Kapha type would be best served by generally following Vata guidelines, with extra cleansing of the oily zones.

An ayurveda physician doctor first diagnose the Prakrutti of your body and skin. Then the medication and therapy decision taken.

Its not possible that all products that are available in markets are suitable for your skin. Market vendor n companies are just taking advantages of your possessiveness of the looking beautiful.

First sign of Winter feels on the Skin

” Fog in the sky early in the morning…

droplets of fog makes good scenery on leaves….

If one get early, feels lil cold atmosphere…

But if get up at sun rise, feel good atmosphere…

Hunger strike properly n more in these days….

In Evening, it seems like 7:30PM but when we see watch its juz 6.15Pm….

….what all this?????????

Its the sign of changing SEASON….!

yeah….when winter comes we eel above all sign first…!

And along with all these, one more sign we feel on —>> SKIN.

yeah….we feel dry skin during the day, chopped lips….

itching…Dandruff…red n dry chicks…..cold n sinusitis….Headache…uffff…”

Well nature made our body such a way that changes of season comes directly first on skin (internal of external).

Generally we do lots of for our priceless skin. Like we apply sunscreen lotion, moisturizer, so many make ups..beauty parlors…facials…Face-packs….blah blah blah…!

so many advertises – recipes – formula for glowing good looking ageless skin…!yeah. Billions dolor market is only on skin products world wide.

Its juz because we are over and over enthusiastic, or i will say the word ‘POSSESSIVE’   for our skin. And generally we just take care of our skin of Face only. Because we all see the beauty from face….!

And this possessiveness for beauty is created by advertiser of so n so companies…!Constant advertises of the beauty products makes us giggling….n ultimately we buy the XYZ products for young fair ageless looking skin…! huh…!

Well one should keep the awareness of all body parts. Skin is the major organ of our body. And so many function done by skin itself….touch … sense…sex… maintain body temperature…feelings… sweating … Covering body parts …. n so on…!

So Care must be there. Care is essential for healthy skin.

But Skin will not be HEALTHY by juz application of various ointments or cream or oils…!

Ayurveda says,

When the inner side of your body is pure….What you look outside is reflection of inside. So if inner side is pure ,obviously outer side will be shining….!

Curd and its Benefits – An Ayurveda View

Curd / Yogurt is a very common and routine food that we eat in our day-to-day life…But there is so many facts that common people dont know about it.
Ayurveda described the benifits and sideeffects of Curd in detail.
Ayurveda’s Scholar Aacharya shri Vagbhatta ji mentioned the qualities of Curd like this—>>

Lets see qualities of Curd / Yogurt—>
  • It absorbs water from intestines (hence called as Grahi in Ayurveda). By the virtue of this property it is widely used to treat diarrhea and dysentery.
  • It causes heaviness when used in excess and may cause constipation.
  • It mitigates vata dosha, increases kapha and pitta. Curd should not be used in diseases where blood is vitiated by doshas.
  • Regular consumption of this in pure form increases body fat and may cause obesity.
  • Curd helps to increase quality and quantity of semen.
  • It strengthens the body.
  • Consumption of curd accelerates digestion (agni), stimulates taste buds and acts as an appetizer.
  • It is found beneficial in diseases of duodenum.
  • It reduces irritability of bladder and helps in emptying bladder easily.

Dos and donts for using curd:—>>>

  • Curd should not be eaten at nights.
  • It should not be boiled or heated.
  • Always it has to be mixed with honey / sugar /Amla churna or a churna directed by your doctor before consuming.
  • Its properties get enhanced when mixed with cooked green gram or ghee or gooseberries (amla , Embelica Officinalis).
  • Curd should be used only when it is well formed or completely coagulated.
  • Consumption of incompletely coagulated curd may flare up herpes outbreaks, psoriasis, bleeding inhemorrhoids, ibs etc. and may cause giddiness.

Home remedies using curd—>>>

  • Dandruff is a known cause of hair loss. Applying sour curd as a pack to scalp and hair , once in a week prevents formation of dandruff.
  • Mix moong dal (green gram) powder with curd and massage it to scalp and brush it on hair. Wash it off after 1 hour. This helps to prevent hair loss and dandruff. It also helps to increase hair growth.
  • Dry orange peel in summer and powder it. Mix this powder with little curds massage it on face and neck. This acts as an excellent cleanser and cleanses clogged pores thus preventing acne and pimples.
  • Curds when mixed with sugar acts as an excellent body coolant and instant energizer. It also quenches thirst.
  • A mixture of besan (gram flour) is an excellent pack to rejuvenate facial skin and body skin.
  • Lactose in milk is converted by Yogurt’s bacteria into lactic acid which helps digest lactose or dairy products.
  • The lactic acid of yoghurt is a perfect medium to maximize calcium absorption.
  • As a curative in intestinal disorder
  • Since curd is more easily digested than milk,(depends on individual’s digestive fire)  it is given during stomach and intestinal disorders. The lactic acid bacteria present in the curd acts as a scavenger and creates a healthy environment in the intestine.
  • Your bowel’s best friend
  • Curd flushes out the toxic matter, which overloads the bowels.
  • If one does not consume curd, the individual may suffer not only from intestinal disorders, but also many bowel disorders especially diarrhoea and gastroenteritis because curd cures all the above disorders.
  • Good for treating ulcers (use only after advise of Ayurveda Doctor)

Calcium is very essential for the healing of ulcers. Since the absorption of calcium is double with the curd consumption as compared to the milk, is gives much relief from the pain and discomfort due to ulcers. Therefore, curd has anti-ulcer property and it is an excellent remedy when even there is a stomach irritation. In an hour only 32 per cent of the raw milk is digested as against 91 per cent of the curd. The lactic acid content in the curd helps in the assimilation of calcium and phosphorus. Moreover, some individuals may show intolerance to milk called “lactose intolerance”, but they show tolerance to curd.

  • For mental health

Curd cures migraine and the biotin, a vitamin present in the curd is very important for mental health.

  • As a cosmetic

When applied to the face, it cures acne. Curd is also applied as a face pack to prevent wrinkles. Down the ages, women have used the curd to soften their skin. The recent breakthrough in skin care is the discovery of AHA’S – Alpha Hydroxy Acids by an American dermatologist. AHA’S are fruit acids derived from milk and the fruits. One of the AHA’S is the lactic acid found in the curd. Hence curd can make a very good base ingredient for face packs to keep the wrinkles at bay.

  • Curd is a good hair conditioner.
It provides good nourishment to hair and add a healthier look to the hair. Research indicates that the lactic acid bacteria present in the curd manufactures some anti-grey hair vitamins and also produces the vitamins which helps to stimulate the hair growth.
All this benifits are told for information, curd may not be suitable to sensitive persons that I found in my routine clinic practice. So consume it aas a food, but If  you are taking it as a medication, consult the Ayurveda Doctor first.
Have a happy time ahead.

Ayurveda Mock tails

Recently when I visited to some restaurants, they start providing some new drinks called “Mock tails”. A new trend is entering, particularly in Indian Restaurants.

Of course, I also attracted to that very vibrant eye catchy colored juices and nice beautiful glasses. The servant is making the mock tails via very interesting way. Very immediate response of mine was “yah, I want to try it”, and that response is not my only, everybody craves to have it.

I grab the Menu card and start to look on the types of Mock tails. A big list was there, and in the bracket there is brief description was also mentioned.

With my big surprises, I found the description little awkward.  I mean, they had given very nice – poppy names to each type o mock tails. But what about its combinations?

Well, some dishes contain flavored soda and ice cream, some contain mixture of fruits juices with milk, and some contain soda + fruit juices and milk and so on…!

All this combination is not good for health. Ayurveda science say strictly “no” to some combinations of foods. By coming together their qualities acts as a poison in body. Such combinations of two or more substances which are not having an affinity for each other is called as Virrudha Aahar in Ayurveda.

Sour tasted fruits with milk, soda with milk / ice cream, fruits with milk, Fruits with soda, flavored synthetic syrup with milk / soda all these are strongly not advisable.

Such food give rises to many chemical reactions in our body which can n ot be visualized soon, they affects cellular body built, blood and their chemical constitutes. And Later after long time one may develops skin diseases, genetic disturbances, swellings on limbs, Blood impurities, poor skin complexion, Psoriasis, hair problems and so on.

Some of this food directly acts on digestive system and liver causing anorexia, colitis, vomiting, poor digestion, lack of digestive enzymes etc.

So according to me we should not attracted by poppy eye catchy names of such dishes. Mock tail concept is good one actually. There is good combinations are available in markets. But such wrong combination and dishes should be avoided.

Its our duty to be careful for our health, everything that we eat in air conditioned and well managed hotels is not best every time.

There are some recipes of some good mock tails; we can make some Ayurveda mock tails also which are tasty as well as healthy also.
