Resistance to Medicine

In routine practice, I saw number of patients who consume antibiotics and such high dose medication for their very small problems / diseases. And sad part is that improper consumption of antibiotic and such medication causes “resistance” to medicines. It will decrease your immunity power. Next time, when you will take same medication, it will not show proper effects on the diseases. And diseases can be on worst stage in your body. Pneumonia, Enteric Fever, Hay fever,AIDS and so many diseases / and their Medicines  developed resistance to some medication.

Why this problem arises??

It’s a fault of a person who generally do self medication without consultation of the doctor. Its due to shop keeper / Pharmacist who gave the medication without any knowledge of medicines and without prescription of the doctor. Its due to lack of knowledge of both doctor and Patients.

So beware, and please-  ALWAYS AVOID SELF MEDICATION.

Ayurveda‘s first intention is to maintain health. And Ayurveda science mentioned some medication and Lifestyle to increase your immunity power. Ayurveda‘s old texts mention the factors that increase the strength –

“बलवत् पुरुषे देशे जन्म, बलवत् काले च I
सुखश्च काल योग: बीज क्षेत्रगुणसंपन्नच I
आहर संपन्नच I  सात्म्य संपन्नच I शरीर संपन्नच I
स्वभाव संसिद्धिश्च यौवनं च कर्म, संहर्षस्च इति I “

Along with that Ayurveda mentioned proper lifestyle management under label of Dincharya, Rututcharya and Sad-vrutta. A Panchkarma procedure also helps to increase immunity power. So with the help of Ayurveda science we can avoid such Resistance problems.

Ayurveda can fight against resistance to  medicine.

But we must understand the side effects and long term worst effects of Antibiotics and such medications. We must use such medication in discipline manner.

We have to combat antimicrobial resistance, If we don’t take action today, There will be no cure tomorrow.

Feel depressed in Rainy days?

The black clouds are in the sky, wind is blowing and atmosphere is cool..! Suddenly rain start pounding outside with flashes in the sky. Your wife or your friends may be like the atmosphere and demand to go for outing with you.

But what’s this???

You are feeling depressed….n you are out of mood??? Feeling lazy, or angry without any reason or you are not finding anything interesting???

Yes, may be this mood disturbance are felt by you due to disturbance of nature’s schedule or more precisely, your body till not get used to with new season and atmosphere.

Some people tend to feel serious and sudden mood change as the season changes, particularly in the monsoon where sunlight is low due to cloudy sky. A Sanskrit line I remember here, it says – “ तमसो मा ज्योतिर्गमय I  “  means, one is praying to god- let us move from deep darkness to light…!

Its human behavior or we can say its nature of human being to stay happy in light – sunny area. It’s not compulsory that every individual feel such symptoms, but now a day such cases are increasing. Here at our clinic we are treating such patients recently.

Now some researches also proved, that low sun rays or cloudy atmosphere in  leads to mood disturbances due to chemical imbalances in brain which leads to depression, Anger, loss of interests, low energy level, more craving of eating food, feeling sleepy whole day, Depression, stress, Headache, nausea  etc various mental problems. We can put all these symptoms under a Label as a “SAD”– Seasonal Affective Disorder.

Ayurveda have very good treatments for such problems. A proper counseling, social supports, Motivation, some herbal Medication according to body constitutes and Therapies like Shirodhara, Nasya and Abyang are very beneficial to such patients.  Yoga and Pranayam are beneficial for these people. Moreover, Ayurveda science suggests Rutucharya, a detailed topics is discussed on the “don’ts “ and ‘Do’s “ in the particular season. The behavior changes according to Rutucharya adjust your body and mind to that particular season.

1. Take a 10-30 minutes’ walk every day. And while you walk, smile.

2. Sit in silence for at least 10 minutes each day.

3. Sleep for 7 hours.

4. Live with the 3 E’s — Energy, Enthusiasm, and Empathy.

5. Play more games.

6. Read more books than you did in 2008.

7. Make time to practice, meditation, and prayer (Namaz). They provide us with daily fuel for our busy lives.

8. Spend time with people over the age of 70 & under the age of 6.

9. Dream more while you are awake.

10. Eat more foods that grow on trees and plants and eat less food that is manufactured in plants.

11. Drink water as per TRUSHNA.

12. Try to make at least three people smile each day.

13. Don’t waste your precious energy on gossip.

14. Forget issues of the past. Don’t remind your partner with his/her mistakes of the past. That will ruin your present happiness.

15. Don’t have negative thoughts or things you cannot control. Instead invest your energy in the positive present moment.

16. Realize that life is a school and you are here to learn. Problems are simply part of the curriculum that appear and fade away like algebra class but the lessons you learn will last a lifetime.

17. Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a beggar.

18. Smile and laugh more.

19. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone. Don’t hate others.

20. Don’t take yourself so seriously. No one else does.

21. You don’t have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.

Dark chocolate also has powerful antioxidant properties, and contains natural stimulants like caffeine, which can enhance focus and concentration.

but Overdose of  caffeine  can make you jittery and uncomfortable.


Sometime we become addictive to such caffeine based food , and unfulfilled requirements leads to headache, insomnia, mental disorders, anger n so on.

So Drink coffee / caffeine based drinks, eat chocolate to njoy it taste. But never be addictive of it.

 

 

Ayurveda Tips for Monsoon season

Everybody is enjoying the Rain. Rain is beautiful gift to mankind to get fresh, its season of Romance.  During the rainy season, our digestive fire is weakened and so digestive system need special precaution in this time. This is the season where so many diseases can occur in our body due to imbalanced Vata dosha particularly. Along with Vata dosha, Pitta and Kapha also imbalanced causing various diseases. . Little precaution and some good habits makes this romantic season more enjoyable.

In India, Some habits and precaution are told in all religious holy books.  They says, To be spiritual, we must be Healthy. Good healthy body is the 1st step to achieve status of spirituality.

शरीरं आद्य खलु धर्म साधनम्…I

They told some habits of food to follow in particular manners, they advised some things to avoid for this four months of Monsoon ( called Chatur Maas) to have healthy body, mind and soul as well. But all this indication of various religions like Hinduism, Jainism etc are for better Health.

चातुर्मास्ये  नरो यो वै त्यजे अन्नादि भक्षणं I
स गच्छति हरि  सायुज्यं न भूयस्तु प्रजायते II

It’s told by the medium of God so the person on this earth will believe in it and follow it sincerely. But all this things also told in Ayurveda and now these things are proved scientifically also.Ayurveda told these things as a Rutu Charya( tips on how to behave in perticular season) for Beautiful Health, Physically as well as mentally.

Ayurveda texts says in the adhyaay of RutuCharya—

आस्थापनं शुद्ध तनु जीर्ण धान्यं रसान कृतान I
जाङ्गलं पिशितं युषान मध्वरिस्तं चिरन्तनं II
मस्तु सौवर्चल आध्यं व पञ्च्कोलव्चुर्नितं I
दिव्यं कौपं शुर्तं च अंभो भोजनं तवतिदुर्दिने II
व्यक्तंललवन्स्नेहं संशुष्कं क्षौद्रव्ल्लघु I
अपद्चारी सुरभि: सततं धुपितंबर : II

During this season Ayurveda recommends some list of Do and Don’ts, to make our body and Mind Healthy. Let’s have a look on some tips —

Do’s –

  • Consume very simple food
  • Food in this season should be easily digestible
  • Drink only boiled and filtered water, and make sure that it is consumed within 24 hours of boiling.
  • Take fresh and fresh prepared food and in little amount
  • Consume food within 2 hours of preparing it
  • Use of Ghee , Oil and salt is beneficial in small amount
  • Use kitchen spices in food to correct your digestive fire
  • Garlic, pepper, ginger, asafetida (hing), jeera powder, turmeric and coriander help enhance digestion and improve immunity.
  • Consume food according to your digestive fire
  • Having fruit or vegetable salads outside is also harmful because germs can easily grow there, always try and take home-made food during this season.
  • Wheat, Wheat floor is good in this season,  Moong dal is easy to digest and should be the dal of choice for the season.
  • Vegetables recommended during the rains are the non-leafy ones such as — snake gourd (turi), gourd (dudhi), pointed gourd (parwal), yam (suran), cluster beans (gavaar), apple gourd (tinda) and bitter gourd (karela).
  • It is better to stick to seasonal fruits because non-seasonal ones tend to get infested with worms during the monsoons. Among fruits, stick to pomegranates, mangoes, bananas, apples, litchees and cherries.
  • Non-vegetarians should go in for lighter meat preparations like soups and stews rather than heavy curries
  • Brown rice and bread are the best food items to go .with during monsoons.
  • avoid foods such as pasta, soups, and other such foods which are meant t o be good host for the growth of bacteria
  • When eating out, choose restaurants that conform to basic standards of quality and hygiene, in order to avoid contracting serious infections such as viral fever, diarrhea and other water borne diseases
  • Avoid eating chaats, fried items such as pakoras, pre-cut fruits and juices from roadside vendors
  • Freshly prepared radish juice is a good remedy for colds. A pinch each of herb pipli, , and rock salt mixed in warm water also help reduce mucous formation.
  • In the starting of Monsoon, do Panchkarma –  Vaman and Virechan, for body detoxification
  • Do course of Basti Chikitsa during Monsoon to avoid aggravation of Vata dosha
  • Ubatan – application of Herbs in particular manners is advisable
  • Seek Ayurveda Doctors advise for Panchkarama, Medicaation and ask them about food also
  • Dry yourself after getting wet in Rain properly
  • Do  Dhupan / Fumigation of herbs as prescribed by Ayurveda Doctor

Don’ts –

  • Avoid Sour, Fermented food
  • Don’t consume food which is stored in cold storage  refrigerator
  • Avoid dry food and Sprouts
  • Don’t consume water of any lake or River or Waterfall
  • Avoid Butter Milk, Curd, yogurt, etc heavy digestable food
  • avoid eating raw foods, instead go for stir fried vegetables because it is difficult to know whether raw foods are properly washed, cleaned or stored
  • Excellent  road side temptations like pani puri and bhel puri are not prepared hygienically and thus can cause stomach aches. So it would be better to control yourself till the end of the season so as to keep yourself healthy and fit and to enjoy the monsoons to the fullest.
  • Avoid sleep  in Day time
  • Don’t over work in these days
  • Always take precaution of your foot and Skin
  • Don’t get wait frequently in Rain, it may cause infection

Black Beauty Fruit – Jambul / Jamun

Jambul

  • English Name – Jambul Tree
  • Sanskrit – Mahafala, Shurbhi patra, Mahajambu
  • Latin name – Eugenia Jambolana

Generally Fruit is available in the starting of Monsoon. Fruit Jambul is real Black beauty..! It contain very good medicinal qualities also.

The fruit has a combination of sweet, mildly sour and astringent  flavour and tends to colour the tongue purple.

The fruit aggravates Vata dosha and Good to subside Pitta and Kapha Dosha.

Its reach source of Iron, a high source of V vitamin A and C. Its  high source of Protein, Fibers and Calcium also. One can take it to increase Hemoglobin level. Fruit pulp acts on Liver, purifies Blood also. If consumed in excessive amount, the fruit can cause Constipation sometime. But in small quantities is good for your digestive system and digestive fire. Fruit pulp manage your Acidity and gives coolant effects. Wine and Vinegar  is also made from fruit.

Powder of Bark is used in diarrhea. Gargles of Decoction of bark are effective in mouth ulcers. The decoction is used to wash wounds externally. The bark and leaves are used to control Blood pressure.

Seed of Jambul is widely used to control blood sugar level.  Powder of seeds has good effects on Urinary systems.  Seeds are mainly used in Ayurveda medications.

Leaves of Jambu tree is used in Gynecological problems like Menorrhagia,  Leucorrhea,  Urinary tract infection also. Its powder is used in women who are  anemic.

One can enjoy the fruit in Monsoon season…but to achieve Medicinal use, one have to consult Ayurveda Doctor. And after advice and proper consultation one has to take the Medication.

Restrained Angle Pose – Baddha Kon Asana

Baddha Kona asana – The Restrained Angle Pose

Instructions:-

  • Sit on the floor with the legs together and extended straight out in front
  • Keep the back straight, shoulders level and head straight
  • Place the hands, palms down, flat on top of the thighs
  • Inhale deeply
  • Exhale and bend the knees drawing the feet towards the torso
  • Place the soles of the feet together, clasp the hands over the feet interlocking the fingers pulling the feet closer and placing the heels against the perineum
  • The outer edge and small toe of each foot should touch the floor
  • Lower the knees to the floor and keep the back straight
  • Use the elbows to press down on the thighs if necessary to bring the calves and knees to the floor
  • Hold the posture breathing gently through the nostrils
  • Release the posture and sit with the legs extended out and hands on the thighs

Benefits :-

  • Regular practice of the baddhakon asan stretches the knees and stimulates circulation in the legs
  • It should be practiced frequently until one is comfortable sitting in the Padma asan.
  • The main areas of the body that are stimulated besides the legs are stomach, Pelvic and lower back
  • It  is said to keep the kidneys , Prostate, and Bladder healthy
  • The Baddha kona asan is one of the few posture the can be practiced comfortably soon after eating
  • Hold the posture from thirty seconds to two minutes depending on comfort.
